Abby and her mom had a very long talk that night in Abby’s room. Mia and Ethan tried their best to listen through the wall. It wasn’t working.
“I have a plan,” said Ethan. “I could climb into my closet, lift up the ceiling panel, and climb into. . .”
“You tried that already, dummy.”
“Oh yeah,” Ethan said as though it just dawned on him. “There’s gotta be a way to hear what’s going on.”
“Don’t you have that computer microphone dad gave you once? That long, skinny one?” Mia asked.
“I bet we could stick that under her door and record the conversation.”
“Yeah, but the cord is only so long, the computer is upstairs.”
“I have mom’s laptop,” Mia said with a smile. “We could totally use it and record the conversation. Go get it!”
Ethan ran out of his room and up the stairs to the computer desk and rummaged around for the microphone. Ethan, who has never found anything ever in his entire life, could not find it.
“I can’t find it,” he reported to Mia.
Mia went upstairs to the computer desk, looked for approximately 8 seconds and found the microphone. “It’s right here you dork.”
“Well how was I supposed to know it was in the drawer? Who puts a microphone in a drawer?”
“It’s been in there for like five years,” said Mia.
Ethan and Mia got back into Ethan’s room. They plugged the microphone in and found the app to do recordings, and just as Ethan was placing the microphone under Abby’s door, Abby came out.
“Seriously? You’re recording our conversation? Moooommmm!”
“I just got here! I didn’t hear anything,” Ethan said.
Ethan went into his room followed by his mom. Yet another day ended with a lecture. Falling to sleep is easier when you have a regular routine. Ethan definitely had one of those.
